My Boy, His Blankie

"Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend."
--Plautus

Do you have a best friend?  Someone who inspires you with their undeviating goodness?  Someone who knocks your socks off with their wit and charm?  Someone who bolsters you up when life is crummy and seeking to push you down?  Do you have a best friend who would never leave your side--a constant, a rock, in the world's shifting sands?  Do you have a best friend who is a tremendous source of comfort to you?  Who brings you joy, exponentially?

And is this best friend......A BLANKET?!!?!

My "Little Man of the House" has a best friend, a most loyal companion, a beloved pal he calls, "B," or "Blanket," or "My Blankie."  They are the dearest of buddies; an inseparable pair, as one is rarely seen without the other.

They go everywhere together.  Like:

The farm!  (Yes, he and his best friend are SITTING in the DIRT beside the rabbit pen.)

Bear Lake!  (For sand and sun and swimming and fun and....blankie.)

In-N-Out Burger!  ( I will meet up with you for an "animal style" cheeseburger ANYTIME!  Cam will come too.  He will bring his blanket.)

Even the pediatrician's office!  Oye!

Other places the Cam Man has gone with his best friend?  Target, Wal-Mart, church, the elementary school, Home Depot, the DMV (to renew my license that had expired TEN MONTHS prior, and unbeknownst to me...whoopsie!), the park, the playground, Chick-Fil-A, Hobby Lobby, a wedding, the state fair, and on and on.  That blanket has been dragged through malls, hotels, parking lots, and muddy puddles.  I have lost track of the number of times I have washed it.  (Did I mention that if Cam and his "best buddy" momentarily separate, he bawls inconsolably?!  That makes for a VERY long wash cycle.)

But no matter the extent of his attachment, no matter the hassle and inconvenience to his mama, one simple and sweet fact remains constant:  That piece of blue, silky, worn-around-the edges blanket makes my buck-toothed dreamboat happy.  Which, ultimately, makes me happy!

Now, if he's sixteen and still carrying that thing around...we've got a problem!!

HAVE A HAPPY WEEKEND!

  3. My son goes no where without his blanket! Sadly, after three years, it doesn't matter how often I wash it...it stinks and is dirty, but I cannot get it away from him!

  5. Awwww oh my gosh! That is SO CUTE! I love hearing your voice, it makes me wish we had so much longer while you were here! My brother used to have a blankie too, and it went everywhere also for 6 YEARS! I'll never forget the day he went up into the attic all by himself, and placed his blankie up in a little basket and never got it out again. Awwww then I missed the blankie :) SO CUTE!!

  8. That is a riot! And very sweet. My almost 9yr old has a very similar BFF ;) The most she does is bring it in the car. She talks to it like it's a person too lol. She'll come home from school, run into her room and yell "Blankie!!!". Weird? Probably lol.

Thanks for linking up with my NO RULES Weekend Blog Party!
    Have a great one :)

  9. Omygosh, I love this! And the video - it was so cute to see them in action...Lilly's sweet voice (she is getting so tall) and Cameron smashing the bubbles with his blankie!! I loved the pics of all the places Blankie goes with him!
I had a few when I was little...my favorite was a pink, blue and white striped one. It was so soft and I would suck my thumb and rub the corner of it on my nose! LOL!
Miss you and love you and hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!!

  11. Cam and his blanket together are sweet! Tot carries around a blue, silky, often washed blanket, too. He also has a couple smaller versions he calls 'Silky' that go on our adventures. Now that he is much more active, we had to make Blanket stay in his bed because Tot trips over him constantly.

    1. JP! You are always so great and sweet and kind and wonderful to comment on my posts. Your comment brought a smile to my face. We are having to do that too--leave blankie in cars and in the house so Cam doesn't biff it on the dang thing!! It's hard, and sometimes he cries. Sigh. Life as mama, I tell ya! XOXO!

  12. He's a gem! My son took his beloved Chee-Chaw (that's the name he gave a stuffed dog he won at an amusement park a couple of years ago) to school and put it in his locker. He's in Kindergarten now and couldn't bear the thought of Chee Chaw being home w/o him all day long, lolol.

Following you now, I'm here from the No Rules blog hop. Happy weekend!

  16. Awwwww how adorable. You know there will come a day when you will realise "hey, you know Cam hasn't carried his blankie for a while" and it'll be a bitter sweet moment. He will have grown older and pushed it to the side :( Enjoy these days (I know you do) and relish in his sweet innocence. Kids grow too fast, it's hard to keep up! This was a super gorgeous post so you can always remember Cam and his best friend :) Thank you my friend for always leaving me the kindest and most happiest comments on my blog. You mean so much to me and one day WE WILL meet, and share a Diet Coke or three...Happy October from Australia xoxo

  21. This reminds me of my Parker. Since day 1 he has been attached to a specific blanket (which is actually a receiving blanket). He calls it his "lovie" and he does not go anywhere without it. It's tattered, torn, and so ugly. It's been 2.5 years and I have tried to "replace" it with identical replica's and he will not accept it. He chooses the old, fadded, torn one over a new one. Sweet boys and there blankies!
